The Pedlet is HERE!

Great Falls, Montana – The Great Falls Business Improvement District, on behalf of the Downtown Development Partnership (DDP), is pleased to announce the unveiling today of our initial pedlet at Mighty Mo Brewing Company at 412 Central Ave.  The project was funded by Montana Main Street grant funds, NeighborWorks Great Falls and the Great Falls Business Improvement District.

What is a Pedlet? A pedlet is a wooden structure that acts as a sidewalk extension beyond the existing curb line. These wooden structures are not meant for dining, they are for pedestrian use only. This new downtown outdoor dining opportunity will add one more element of fun to our Main Street.  It reflects our City’s commitment to encouraging walking and biking, creating great streets, and strengthening our communities.

Pedlets act as a new route for pedestrians; it utilizes on-street parallel parking space(s); it is allowed within the BID boundaries; it will be utilized from May – September/October, depending on the weather; it is designed for easy removal and will be stored by the BID when not in use; it is ADA compliant and will not inhibit the flow of traffic.   Pedlets are designed to protect diners and allow them to enjoy a hassle free meal in a sidewalk dining setting.

West Allis, Wisconsin, was the first City in the nation to create, and coin the term, ‘pedlet’.  Great Falls is thrilled to be the second official city in the nation to implement this dynamic program.

The BID worked in partnership with the City of Great Falls, and Max Grebe, of L’Heureux Page Werner in design of the pedlet.  The pedlet was constructed and installed by Detailed Construction.
